Beautiful new embroidery floss!
DMC has done it again! Well, I think they have. I haven't tried the floss yet, but it looks beautiful.
The new Color Variations floss is a multicolor floss, but it's nothing like the (often gaudy) variegated flosses. This floss is tonal, with a subtle blending of colors within a color family. It's beautiful.
DMC, of course, intends the floss primarily for cross stitch. The concept is simple: instead of changing colors every few stitches to produce subtle color variations, why not let the thread do the work? The blending of colors adds a great depth to embroidery.
But of course, we're interested in it for stitching books! I meant to buy some, but I forgot last time I was at Michael's. I thought, "I'll think about the color, then come back." Of course, two days later I remembered...oh well. But I think it will add a really nice touch to stitching, especially to tassels or cords. And the best part? Each colorway is matched to existing DMC colors, making it easy to coordinate. Yay!
I think my favorite is 4210, a beautiful range of dark reds.
